How can i get the credit card collectors off my back.?

Can anyone please help me, i got myself in debt $16,000 dollars worth. I can't pay my minium payments cause they jumped up to bout $600 bucks a month. I need help....I don't know what to do their say they can garnish my wages washington Mutal, us bank & discover credit cards. Can they garnish my wages? What should i do? I've been looking at debt consolidating. Would like be a wise thing to do? Any suggestions from anyone will help. Thanks in advance
