How do you politely brush off obnoxious, toxic people at work?

If you feel this way, why do you let him bother you at all? He is what he is, people can only be "toxic" if you allow them to affect you. And it is not feasible to "get rid" of someone you have to work with...so either deal with it or look for another job.
